Minnesota County Death Index

Minnesota has 87 counties. Each county maintains its own vital records office for death records going back to approximately 1870. Since 2001, all county offices are linked through the statewide electronic system, so deaths from 1997 forward can be requested at any county. For deaths before 1997, contact the county where the death occurred or the Minnesota Department of Health. Select a county below to find the local vital records office address, phone number, fees, and how to request death certificates in that county.
